Guest post guidelines
We publish guest articles from people who actually do the work. If you have run the campaign, done the renovation, coached the team or shipped the product, we want to hear from you.
What we accept
- Original writing that has not appeared anywhere else, including your own blog or LinkedIn.
- 900 to 1,600 words with a point of view, not a summary of the first page of Google.
- First hand detail: numbers, dates, what went wrong, what you would do differently.
- Australian context where the topic allows it. Prices in dollars, seasons the right way around.
- One link to your own site in the author bio. Contextual links are considered on merit, not automatically.
What gets rejected immediately
- Anything written by a language model and pasted in unread. We can tell, and so can readers.
- Articles built around a client link you were paid to place. That is a sponsored post, and it has a price.
- Topics with no connection to our categories.
- Pitches addressed to "Dear webmaster" or to the wrong site name.
The admin fee
There is a $150 admin fee on accepted guest posts. Local community groups, schools, sporting clubs and not for profits are exempt, and always will be.
What the $150 covers:
- A full edit to house style, including the headline, structure and cuts.
- Fact checking every claim and figure, and removing anything we cannot verify.
- Checking every link, and marking commercial links correctly.
- Sourcing, sizing and captioning images, including the featured image.
- Formatting, scheduling, publishing and adding the article to the relevant category.
- Hosting the article permanently, and keeping it working when things move.
Payable only after we accept the piece. Pitches cost nothing to send and nothing to have declined. The fee does not buy the link, does not buy an acceptance, and does not change a single editorial decision.
How to pitch
- Email [email protected] with the subject line Guest post: your headline.
- Give us the headline, three bullet points on what the article argues, and one line on why you are the person to write it.
- Link one thing you have written before. A rough draft is fine. A full draft is welcome but not required.
- Wait up to five business days. A no is a short no, not silence.
House rules once accepted
We edit for clarity, structure and house style, and we will change your headline. Facts are checked and anything we cannot verify comes out. You keep the byline and the credit. We keep the right to update the article later, and we will not sell links from inside it after publication.
